Yeah, about that Santorum quote…

…the one where he says being female is a mental disorder?

He didn’t actually say that. The site that has that quote, Free Wood Post?

It’s a satirical news site. Like The Onion. It says so on their “so you want to write for us” page.

http://www.freewoodpost.com/become-a-writer-for-fwp/

I don’t like Santorum. But I don’t want people who don’t like him to be even inadvertently guilty of pulling the same rumor-mongering shit that some people have spread about Obama.

Rumors don’t help anybody. They just make you look gullible.

Santorum: Being Female is a Mental Disorder

It has been my experience that when dealing with females, you need to treat them as though they have a mental disorder… especially those that are constantly seeking equality in the workplace, the military, and in the home. Women need to know their place and need to know when it is okay for them to speak. They were put on this earth for two reasons, and two reasons alone: taking care of their husband, and giving birth to his children… that is all. Any woman who tells you otherwise is obviously touting the liberal agenda of equality, and they need to be told the truth of their purpose. It is a disorder that can be fixed, but not until they go through several years of therapy to understand that they need to be subservient.

Rick Santorum

Dave Mustaine’s favorite presidential candidate, everyone.

So has Santorum grown that mustache yet so he can just twirl it while cackling and just solidify his persona as a cartoon villain?

While I wouldn’t put it past Santorum…I’m pretty sure that that’s a satirical news site, based on what else they have stories on, and that he didn’t actually say that.

Medieval Thedas: 30 Days of History: Day 2

2. Least favorite time period

I’ve always disliked the ancient Romans, both Republic and Empire. In large part because of how I learned about the Romans in school, from elementary school to college: as nothing but a series of wars and politics. I find both pretty boring (historically speaking; I…

I got lucky in my experience with Roman History, since it was a month-long summer course on the history of Rome through film. Which means we watched edited clips from HBO’s Rome and MST’d Cleopatra. And the prof gave us the most random historical anecdotes.

Knickerweasels is a weekly fancast by hosts flutiebear and myjusticecake on all things Dragon Age and fandom. We’ve taken our ongoing conversation to the internet in the hope that some of you will find it interesting, amusing, or perhaps even want to join in.

Episode #2: “Problematic”

Dragon Age is often lauded for its egalitarian take on queer relationships and gender roles. When it comes to sexuality, gender and race, what does Bioware get right? Where is there still room for improvement?

Also: How can fandom act as a safe space? When it comes to fantasy worlds, why aren’t there ever any brown people? And just who exactly are Big White Titties expected to please?

(Note: Very minor spoilers for Mark of the Assassin in this episode)

On the subject of the depictions of trans* characters in the DA universe, Serendipity, conversation tree screw up aside, is a definite step up from the ones in Origins who were labeled as “ ‘female’ companion.” Serendipity is just Serendipity.

Who Is Paul McCartney?! Sigh. I’m losing faith in the world. (via @thorparker and @buzzfeed)

Even if you didn’t know who he was, are people now even too lazy to google something?

I don’t want to live on this planet anymore.

I feel sad for this generation… very very sad… T_T

WHAT-

THE-

IS THIS FOR REAL-

WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH

Whaaaaaaaaaaaat? Oh, this hurts my soul. 😦

I watched Paul’s Grammy performance with his band, Bruce Springsteen, Dave Grohl, and Joe Walsh. I thought it was amazing. His voice was a little shaky in the beginning of Golden Slumbers but once it warmed up he put on a great show as always. The guitar performances were phenomenal and Paul’s drummer, Abe Laboriel, Jr., wailed on that kit as usual.

I mean really? Sir Paul fucking McCartney? Even if you’re not a fan how can you not know who this man is? And some people taking a knock at the performance!? A Beatle, an Eagle, The Boss, a Foo Fighter/former Nirvana drummer, and an extremely talented, world-touring band playing the end of the goddamned Abbey Road Medley?

…this reminds me of when I removed someone from my FB friends list when they were like, “Who the hell are The Who? Get someone we know” when The Who played the Super Bowl.

The more I think about it, the more that stupid “what about Zev he’s a killer” derail in that ridic Loghain wank bothers me. Like, a lot. Not just because I’m a Zev fangirl but their situations are so different that comparing them is insulting tbh.

Zev is an elf, the…

Yes, yes, keep making excuses using the traumatic past. Same would “work” in Loghain’s case. (The Stolen Throne reveals a horrific background) As does the redemption angle later. Just let it GO already.

Okay you really are not getting the point here. It isn’t about Zevran’s traumatic past versus Loghain’s traumatic past. It’s about the level of power and control Zevran has over his situation versus the level of power and control Loghain has over his.

It’s extremely ironic that you’re the one telling people to “let it go” now, but by all means, do so. Discourse is happening. You don’t need to call in the cavalry to defend Loghain’s honor.

Bolding mine, because attempting to call in said cavalry is a blatant attempt to shut down the discourse. Applause for those involved in the discourse; because actually reading the discourse on such topics is a good way to learn some pretty important things.
