because a lot of people dont seem to get this:
- golems are from jewish folklore. dont treat them like a generic fantasy creature, thats appropriative
- kabbalah is a specifically jewish religious tradition. dont practice it if youre not jewish and dont use kabbalah symbolism as generic occult stuff, thats appropriative
- for the record if it has hebrew on it and it doesnt have anything to do with judaism its probably appropriative
- dont wear a magen david if youre not jewish, its used as a symbol for judaism so wearing it if youre a gentile is appropriative
- while im at it heres a rundown of some terms you should know
- goy: hebrew and yiddish for non-jewish person, it literally translates as “nation.” the plural form is goyim. goy is not a slur.
- gentile: english for non-jewish person
- anti-semitism: you probably know what this means but i just want to point out that the word anti-semitism was NOT coined by jews but by a german anti-semite who wanted a more scientific-sounding alternative to “judenhass,” which literally translates to “jew-hatred”
- if you’re not jewish you should also avoid using the word “jew” since many jewish people are uncomfortable with it (though i personally am fine with it). use “jewish person” instead if youre a gentile
please reblog this if you’re not jewish, i almost never see gentiles acknowledging cultural appropriation of judaism and anti-semitism on tumblr, even among people who otherwise care about things like that.

Alabama Is Dealing a Huge Blow to Women’s Rights With the Most Ridiculous New Law
OK, this is just unnecessary.Welcome to a live action version of “The Handmaid’s Tale”.The law, which is currently in effect, says that girls under 18 who want to get an abortion without parental consent are subject to legal hearings wherein a state prosecutor or judge can appoint a lawyer to advocate on behalf of the unborn fetus.
Alabama Is Dealing a Huge Blow to Women’s Rights With the Most Ridiculous New Law
So none of the required courses I still need to take to graduate (there’s…three or four, depending) are even offered this coming semester. And I probably really only need one or two more electives.
So much for taking MORE classes this semester so I could finish up faster.
Hey shoulders, if you could quit pulling this pinched nerve bs that keeps messing up my arms, that would be great.
So that school survey I talked about back in April where I left a comment probably to the affect of, “Hey, for a diversity survey, you left some things to be desired, like the ability for students to tell you if they are something other than gay, lesbian, bi, or het.”
Apparently they listened (and hopefully heard from people other than me with similar comments). The most recent survey they sent out had a write-in box for “other” when it came to sexualities.
READ IF YOU ARE AN INDIGENOUS/NATIVE PERSON (and please reblog if you aren’t to spread the tag)
Hello, I am an native american tumblr user and I noticed there is no tag besides just ndn and tags of the like for native peoples. I want to make this tag for native peoples for blogging about really anything that relates to native culture like pictures of cultural items, folklore, talking about problems regarding native culture, etc.
I came up with indeedindigenous as the tag name
This tag includes not just native americans, but all native peoples (i.e inuits, aboriginal peoples around the world in general etc.)
Please boost this indigenous or not
Self-erasure
It’s sad when other people refuse to accept someone as asexual and keep coming up with excuses to invalidate the asexual person’s feelings.
But it’s even sadder when an asexual person comes up with those excuses all on their own to rationalize why they can’t be asexual.
I knew about the existence of asexuality from a young age. I encountered the term while researching other LGBT+ identities, and accepted immediately that asexual people existed. But it took almost a full decade before I realized that it applied to me. In the intervening years, my mind kept inventing rationalizations for why I couldn’t be asexual, and I didn’t even notice it at the time. I was confused about my sexuality, and open to being gay, straight, bi or pan if that’s how things turned out, but asexuality never occurred to me as a serious option.
Here are some of the things I said to myself while I was growing up:
- “Well, most people are straight, so I’m probably straight, too.”
- “I’m just a late bloomer.”
- “Crushes aren’t real, they’re just a cultural invention to let girls express attraction without directly acknowledging sexual desires they’re ashamed of.”
- “I’m not attracted to anyone because all the people at my high school are gross and immature.”
- “I’m just not ready for a romantic relationship yet.”
- “I only want to have sex with someone I love, otherwise it won’t be special enough to me. And I’m just not in love with anyone yet.”
- “None of these people are my type.”
- “My classmates act more sexually than I do because pop culture has told them that’s what teenagers are supposed to do.”
- “I’m more emotionally mature than these people so being attracted to them would just be weird and creepy.”
- “I’ll start dating when I go to college.”
- “[in college] I’ll start dating when I make enough friends to know that I’m not just dating because I’m lonely.”
- “[later] I’ll start dating when I actually make some sexually attractive friends.”
I mean, seriously? Identifying as straight just because it was “statistically probable,” not because it reflected my own feelings and experiences? Claiming that not ONE person in my entire high school was attractive and mature enough to date? Thinking crushes didn’t exist? I was remarkably oblivious to how different I was.
I had internalized society’s ideas about love, sex and relationships so deeply that I didn’t even need an oppressor to erase me anymore. I was perfectly capable of erasing myself.
Sign the petition: Wheelchair Access On Commercial Airlines
I just signed a petition to The United States House of Representatives, The United States Senate, and President Barack Obama: Please push the Federal Aviation Association to require airlines to provide designated wheelchair accessible spaces on every commercial aircraft, which will allow passengers to remain safely seated in their personal wheelchairs. Please sign this petition! As it stands now, people who can’t transfer out of their chairs just can’t travel by plane. Not to mention all of us whose chairs get smashed and broken when they’re thrown into the cargo hold, leaving us completely stranded when we get to our destinations.
Reblog if you would read a post-apocalyptic comic about disabled people
Seriously. Because I have an idea for one, and I want to see whether I can make it work. I don’t know if I can find an artist who’d be interested in collaborating on it, but if I can, I have some ideas on how to fund it. I just want to see enough people would be interested in it.
Surely I can’t be the only one who’s tired of the idea that the apocalypse would wipe out all disabled people because we couldn’t possibly survive.
As a person with a chronic illness (type 1 diabetes; diabetics and others who need medication to survive don’t tend to fare well in post-apocalyptic media), I’d love to see something like this.
