To High School Students Wanting to Sit for Pledge:

Back when I was in high school, I sat for the pledge to protest the Iraq War. This was in 2002-2003 when people were hyper-patriotic and nationalistic, slightly more than you see today (though still maddening today).

Anyway, I got sent to the principle’s office and so on and so forth, and teachers and administrators wanted to punish me.

However, thanks to a law teacher, I was well educated. If you decide to sit, please keep in mind Tinker vs. Des Moines. That is a Supreme Court law  that states students do not relinquish their Constitutional rights when they enter school. This means you have the freedom to protest, as long as it’s peaceful and not disruptive to school, such as wearing an armband or sitting for the pledge.

They cannot force you to stand, and they cannot punish you. That would be unconstitutional. Do not be deterred in any peaceful protest. You are allowed to have your voice, anyone that that says otherwise is full of shit and doesn’t know the law.

I’m walking through the wine section in Publix and this old dude walks by me and says, “You don’t need any of that stuff,” and just kept walking.

And I’m like, “Do you know me from some tea-totaler place…or did you just assume I was underage because I’m short and baby-faced?” With a side-order of did old dude think I was a tween boy, ‘cause that has happened before, too.

Not-Dear Campus Police,

If you don’t handle parking tickets at your station you should note that on your tickets, because currently the back of the tickets say that, to contest a citation, you must 1) mail the appeal, or 2) “Go in person to the issuing department office.”

Said issuing department office does not, in fact, work that way, apparently.

That’s a problem.

P.S. The school internet thinks your ticket website could be a potential threat because of its certificate having issues. I find this hilarious.

I’m a Communist Pro-Government Multilateralist Bleeding-Heart Progressive. But I clicked “maybe” on a lot of the “government has the right to do thing X” ones because it depends on the government.

I’m a Communist Authoritarian Multilateralist Bleeding-Heart Libertine.  I think I was too certain about things like, gov’t has the right to tax people and stuff, that one was 50%.  100% collectivist, though.

Same! Without taxes a lot of things like welfare programs wouldn’t exist. Taxes are not inherently authoritative or evil, and neither is a government. (like the other person up there said, it depends on the government.)

Not surprised with most of this; I think my Liberalism score is lower partly because I am one of those people who goes “Well, it depends on what direction you mean that…"  and didn’t trust the test to be using my meaning on some things.
