Basically we have about 3 months to pack up for a move across the country, and the cost of moving cross country is hideously expensive.

I’m reluctant to set up a gofundme but I’m also practical enough to admit when we need help. My estimate is well above what I’m even asking for, but even enough to make sure the cats are able to be moved comfortably (vet checkups and papers that are apparently needed in the destination state) and we can have motels to stay at over the course of that week would be welcome.

I was the victim of a hit and run by a drunk driver that catastrophically devastated my body. I was left for dead in a ditch by the ocean. I was fully conscious, yelling as loud as I could for help, for five hours before I was found. I damaged my vocal chords screaming for help. I was in the hospital for five weeks, and then another week five months later, then two days, and then another two days after my most recent surgery in March. I’ve had eleven surgeries on my leg and arm.

My shin bone exploded out of my leg and I spent nine months living in fear of amputation. It’s been almost three years of healing and rehab and physio and surgery after surgery and my leg still might have to be amputated. My ankle broke and the bone was stabbing through my skin. My foot was facing the wrong way and held on by about an inch of skin. I had an external apparatus drilled through my skin into what remained of my bone for months and months and I had to crank it four times a day to drag a chunk of bone down my leg so I could regrow new bone behind it. I couldn’t put any weight on my leg, not even to rest my foot on the ground, this entire time.

My arm bone stabbed through my skin in several places, including severing my tricep muscle and causing it to recoil up into my shoulder, and almost severing my arm just above the elbow.

I have many other injuries as well, including a traumatic brain injury, a broken shoulder blade, and extensive nerve damage. It has been almost three years and I am still suffering from the physical and psychological injuries from it. I still may have to get more surgery, and I am still seeing a physiotherapist, a massage therapist, a psychologist, a urologist (there is extensive nerve damage in my bladder causing extreme pain), and an orthopedic surgeon regularly for my injuries.

I will be in pain for the rest of my life. I already have tendinitis, regional pain disorder, and osteoporosis. Arthritis isn’t far behind. I can walk a little but it exhausts me and causes severe pain. I had wanted to work with kids my entire life and now I will never be able to fulfil that dream because I will never be able to keep up with children again.

I will be disabled for the rest of my life because of one drunk driver.

I am raising money to help me survive. My disability benefits were cut it half this year and now I can barely cover my rent, let alone all of my constant medical expenses, like medications, travel to and from the many, many doctors and lawyers and specialists I have to see who are out of town. I tried to make a youcaring account but it’s only for the states and I’m in Canada.

Thank you so much for reading my story. Please help me stay alive, and boost this if you can! Feel free to message me for more details or if you’ve got any questions!

ELU: Emotional Care Survey

A friend of mine asked folks to share this around, so take a look if you feel up to it.

Hello there! This is a survey presented by the Emotional Labor Union, a
social practice art project based out of Bozeman, Montana. Health is
holistic: if you do not take care of your mind and your soul, your body
will follow next. Consequently, your ability to remain strong in the
face of an uncertain – and undoubtably dangerous – political future will
be compromised. The ELU’s aim is to act as a resource to help everyone
in the long fight stay healthy, positive, and strong as we look to 2018
and 2020. Also: we love you. We want you to be well.

In order to serve these aims, the ELU is conducting a survey of what is emotionally needed from vulnerable communities. How can allies help you best in emergency situations? What are nice things that you wish others would do for you that maybe are overlooked by general self-care wisdom? What are methods that make you best feel safe when you are at your most vulnerable?

Thank you very much for answering these questions, and I hope that you are taking care as best you can. This survey will close on Friday, February 17, 2017. Until then, please spread extensively so that we might better be able to create better and more exhaustive resources for you and yours.

Warmly and with solidarity,
Allison Brown

Last night the Senate blocked the passing of the amendment protecting care for those with #PreExistingConditions and #Disabilies. 49-49 with 60 needed to pass.

Ok, Tumblr! Time to start doing what you do best. DEMAND ACTION AND KEEP RECEIPTS!

Find out how your senators voted there’s an election in 2018 and they’re going to have to account for their actions

AND CALL YOUR SENATORS!

Tell them to vote NO on ACA repeal, tell them to #Protectourcare

UPDATE: Cause I queued this but I’m falling asleep to C-Span heh,  SENATE PASSES BUDGET RESOLUTION 51-48 Moves towards repeal of #ACA … l

Let’s get those receipts printed ppl ! CALL YOUR SENATORS!  CALL BOTH OF THEM. CALL THEM EVERY DAY. 1-888-897-9753

able friends and allies, we need you for this.

We need those of you who aren’t too sick to intervene, to care enough to intervene.

I’m not worried for myself (yet) but my  friends’ lives are at stake here. Please, please do call if you can.

Preexisting conditions laws left me stuck at terrible jobs. When I absolutely had to pay for COBRA once to keep from getting a permanent exclusion, it was $1600 a month. Please.

My Go Fund Me

image

Hi, My name’s Diana, (terrible picture i know) I’m 18 years old and i’ve been Type one Diabetic for nearly 10 years.

I have always struggled to control my diabetes, I gave up for a long period of time but i’m trying to get control of my life again.

I have had a HbA1c of above 14% for the last few years. This gives the doctor a idea of what my blood sugars have been like over the past few months. The ideal number is 6.9%. That means mine is more than double.

I recently discovered a new device called the Freestyle Libre System . (Thats their fancy product picture below)

image

I bought the starter kit (after saving up). It included the Reader and two sensors. Since i’ve had the sensor on (6 days only) its estimated my HbA1c to be 7.7%.

image

It gives me a detailed view of how my blood sugars are, whether they are going up or down and how fast. Letting me treat myself before i become extremely ill with ketones and likely end up in the ICU. I am not exaggerating in saying in the past 10 years my admissions number is probably close to 100 visits.

image

I cannot express how much this device has changed my life. I haven’t felt as depressed as i did before and i overall feel so much healthier it’s unbelievable for me!! I can genuinely say i feel happy again for the first time in a long time. It gives me back the control over my life that i felt like i lost when i was nine. I’m hoping that because i’ve finally fulfilled my part of the deal with my diabetic team by improving my HbA1c and proving i am committed in getting better, that they will soon give me a insulin pump.

My problem is that the Freestyle Libre Sensors are not currently funded by the NHS.

image

I’m hoping they soon will be or my diabetic team will make a compromise.

Now my mum has demanded that i have to move out.

image

I’m lucky enough after being away from her for a week she let me come back and stay until the council gives me my own place.

image

They’ve made me a priority because of my diabetes and risk of homelessness and i’m in the top 10.

Because the sensors would have taken half of my income already i’m not going to be able to afford to buy any more after i have my own place. I have to start paying my own bills and rent and all those adult things im currently unaware of and will soon find out…

I’m not complaining. It’s time i grew up and was independent but i don’t think i can survive without the support this device gives me.

They are £48.29 for each sensor which lasts two weeks.

(That price is included with the 20% VAT discount because i’m a type one Diabetic.)

I’ve put £485 as my goal because that will afford me to buy 10 sensors. Which will last me 5 months. In that time i hope to be able to either find a way to pay for them myself or have them funded by my clinic/NHS. (Plus hopefully be okay on my own feet…)

Thank you so much for taking the time to even read this. If you do or don’t fund me I’m begging you to at least sign this petition to get the Freestyle Libre funded on the NHS.

I’m going to add my paypal email just incase anyone who’s willing to donate prefers that method. It will be added to the Go Fund Me page as an offline credit.

Thanks and stay healthy!

My Go Fund Me

Followers, if you or anyone who follows you/you follow/you know anyone who lives in the UK, please, please get them to sign the petition to have the NHS fund the Freestyle Libre. Remember, there is no cure for type 1 diabetes, so devices like the Freestyle Libre are the best chance for many people with type 1 to control their diabetes in order to live a healthier, happier, freer, less fearful life.
