#she always used shaw when she wanted emotional distance#or when she wanted to be on neutral/equal ground with shaw#root used sam when she wanted to purposely annoy shaw#and sameen was her term of endearment#also used when she wanted to be affectionately annoying#or overtly seductive and flirty#root saying sameen always meant she was actually being vulnerable
#sameen was root’s ‘tell’#whenever she used it shaw knew root was laying her cards on the table regardless of what root was saying to hide it#and if you watch shaw#she responds accordingly#root’s tone when she says sameen lets shaw know which way the conversation will go#and she either calls root out for it#or carefully listens with much less snark and projected hostility#shaw often seems to soften her demeanor in response to the times root is genuinely serious or sincere#all based just on the way and manner in which root say’s her name#i think shaw learned after the hotel meeting and subsequent research not to trust root’s body language or words#so she focused#maybe subconsciously on tone#it’s the one thing root can’t mask or hide#around shaw in particular#but really no one else pays enough attention or knows root well enough#to pay attention to the way she speaks#shaw would have zeroed in on it pretty quick#especially during the kidnapping#but I think shaw is also the only person later on who actually cares enough about what root has to say that she makes sure to listen#a refined art form of shaws#as she has spent her whole life learning to listen#very carefully#her own small voices (via archaeomedic)
Tag: root x shaw
Root has ear pain from time to time but ignores it. Shaw ignores her when Root asks why Shaw is microwaving a dish towel, but then takes the warm towel and gently places it against Root’s ear. Root has never felt better in her life.
Awww! I can just picture her laying it over her ear, sighing in relief for a moment and then of course “I love it when you play doctor.”
Root can speak Farsi. Shaw doesn’t know that.
I like to think that Shaw uses her Farsi very sparingly, like it’s some sort of secret. Harold and John have never heard her use it outside of the field, Root gets little whispers of it when Shaw thinks she’s sleeping though. After the first few times, Root resolves to learn the language because she’s dying to know what Shaw says to her when she’s laying awake in the middle of the night.
shaw will basically do anything for root if she gives her the pout.
It takes her a shamefully long time, but eventually Shaw figures out that if she cocks her head to the side a little and gives Root her biggest, saddest eyes, she can have the same effect. She mostly uses her newfound power for food, kinky sex acts, and fancy new weapons in that order.
for the analysis of any complex number, the real (Re) and imaginary (Im) parts can be represented separately on the complex plane.
( inspired by this derailed thread | apparently part of a mathy gif series )
#here we go again #if we separate the dependent and independent variables of shaw and root’s complex relationship #with the independent variable being root and her ridiculousness #and the dependent variable being shaw’s reaction to said ridiculosity #and mapping them out on a complex plane #it can be seen that root’s shameless flirting is the (Re) real part #and shaw’s grumpy reactions are the (Im) imaginary part #in other words #shaw’s grumpiness is imaginary because she and root are in love #the end #this wasn’t intended to be a thing but now i suppose it is #in my head there’s a disappointed voice saying ‘jennifer. jennifer why’ #but there’s no RULE AGAINST HAVING FUN WITH MATH #even tho this pairing is now 1% fun and 99% pain and tears #root x shaw #lee i hope you know this is 100% your fault #a how to guide for making ships as nerdy as possible #f(shoot) = liferuiners (via perkypsycho)

Practice.I made references to Nicolas Uribe’s work.
#you know i have this idea#that when Shaw comes back#Root will not want to let her out of her sight#and she might even want to cling herself to Shaw while they sleep#but i know Shaw wouldn’t let her#she wouldn’t let herself be the little spoon EVER#so she’ll tell Root to get over it#that she’s back and she’s fine#and in that night is Shaw who finds herself wanting to protect Root in their sleep#so Root doesn’t have to hurt ever again#after all#she’s the one who does the protecting#right?#that night is the first night in months that Root has slept so soundly#wrapped in the arms of the woman she can’t live without ( via whiteknightswan)
Yeah sure, Root, maybe someday. Is that good enough for you?
Yes, Sameen. That’s good enough for me.#GOD FUCKIGN DAMNIT #ROOT’S DAMN EYES IN THOSE GIFS FUCKING KILL ME #LIKE SHE IS LITERALLY OVERFLOWING WITH HAPPINESS AT THE MERE BREADCRUMB OF HOPE FOR A RELATIONSHIP WITH SHAW #LIKE FUCK CAN YOU NOT #I’M HONEST TO GOT NOT SURE I’VE EVER SEEN ANOTHER CHARACTER ON TV THAT WAS SO OVERJOYED AT THE POSSIBILITY OF BEING WITH THE PERSON THEY LOVED #LIKE WHEN YOU THINK ABOUT IT USUALLY A RELATIONSHIP WHERE IT’S A PURSUER-TYPE THING (AND I HESITATE TO CALL ROOT THAT BUT FOR SIMPLICITY’S SAKE) #WHEN THEY LEARN THEY STAND A CHANCE THEY’RE FULL OF PRIDE LIKE THEY’VE WON SOMETHING #THAT’S NOT ROOT’S REACTION. THIS ENTIRE REACTION IS ‘I MIGHT GET A CHANCE TO BE WITH THIS A M A Z I N G WOMAN #I MIGHT BE LUCKY ENOUGH TO GET TO TOUCH AND KISS AND HUG HER #REALLY???’ #SHE IS HONEST TO GOD LOSING HER SHIT AT SHAW’S WORDS AND LIKE #JUST DON’T TOUCH ME (via doctormechanic)
no but the thing is it’s *not* about happiness at maybe getting a chance to be with shaw. because in this scene she *knows* she’s about to die. she knows there’s no getting out of it and she knows this is the last time she’ll ever get to talk to shaw. and that’s why she pushes the question of their relationship. because normally she respects shaw’s boundaries but since this is literally the last moment she’ll ever have. she allows herself to push just that little bit more. and her absolute sunshiney happiness isn’t because she’ll get her chance to be with shaw – she knows she never will. it’s because shaw’s telling her that there is in fact something there between them. that sameen ‘I don’t care about people’ shaw is basically checking the ‘yes’ box on root’s do you like me note. root who had thought for so long that everyone was just bad code and found herself accidentally falling for this tiny grump. and never wanted shaw to be anything more than she is because what she is is perfect to root. she was asking shaw in her last moments of life to tell her that she’s not alone. and
the knowledge that professional grumpypants sameen shaw would choose to
be there with her in a future that they’ll never have. *that* is what is good enough for root. and it’s the most heartbreaking and beautiful thing and that simulation will haunt me for the rest of my days.
