This is not an issue with most of the people I follow, but I did see some nonsense about “THE NAME OF THAT JAEGAR IS NOT A SLUR, THE SLUR IS SPELLED WITH A Y AND THE JAEGAR IS NAMED AFTER AN ENGINE. IT’S CLEVER, NOT OFFENSIVE” go across my dash today.

Shut. Up.

Let me tell you a thing about the English language: spelling “rules” played fast and loose well into the 1800s, and still do.

The Jaegar’s name contains a variant spelling of the the slur.

And just where the hell do you think the engine got it’s name?

One of those de Havilland plane varieties with that engine has the same name as a moth, only the moth’s name is spelled like the most commonly used modern spelling of the slur.

Variant. Spellings. Do. Not. Make. It. Not. Offensive.

And unless you are a member of the people whom the slur is aimed at, sit down and shut up about what is and is not a slur or what is or is not offensive because you don’t get to decide that for other people.
