Jolene by Dolly Parton except it’s playing downstairs while you’re laying up in the loft of a cabin listening to the thunder and rain hitting the roof tiles above you

Unsure where this came from, if not the palsied hands of the good Lord himself.
Simple premise: Dolly Parton’s “Jolene” slipped from 45 to 33 rpm. Nothing more; no studio trickery, no trip hop drum breaks. The guitar lopes back in and around itself. The bass becomes elastic, hot rubber. The violin stabs become sustained cello lines. The backing choir’s split harmony rattles around, slinking ghostly into the corner. And most importantly, Parton’s once-frantic vocal is transformed from bubblegum country scrawl into something approximating field holler reverence.
An already perfect song made transcendental..
So, when I first tried to download the song, THIS IS WHAT I GOT.
Traditional Russian folk cover of Boney M’s “Rasputin”.

I’ve never been a big fan of Uptown Funk, but this mix with Seven Nation Army makes the whole song sound so… evil. I love it.
HOOOOOOOO MYYYYYYYY GOOOOODDDDDDDDD
THIS SOUNDS LIKE A DISNEY VILLAIN SONG
OMG IT DOES
The Decemberists – “After the Bombs”
When ever I eventually get around to putting soundtracks together Jen Shepard/Ashley Williams and Jen Shepard/Miranda Lawson, this will be on both.
I also will eventually get around to writing and writing more of both
“L’il Red Riding Hood" – Amanda Seyfried (covering Sam the Sham and the Pharaoh)
call me maybe performed with bottles
What the fuck.
OH MY GOD.
HOW EVEN WHAT
Because it’s easier for me to record something new in my room than go to the practice rooms to make actual nice recordings (also writing a song takes 20 minutes, recording a basic version maybe another 10 minutes, but polishing takes at least an hour. I don’t know how), I caved and did another song. So have something new- it’s been over a week since I uploaded anything. It’s sort of rough right now though.
As always, music is mine; poetry is Tolkien’s.
Lament for Boromir – The Two Towers, by J. R. R. Tolkien
Through Rohan over fen and field where the long grass grows The West Wind comes walking, and about the walls it goes. 'What news from the West, O wandering wind, do you bring to me tonight? Have you seen Boromir the Tall by moon or by starlight?' 'I saw him ride over seven streams, over waters wide and grey; I saw him walk in empty lands, until he passed away Into the shadows of the North. I saw him then no more. The North Wind may have heard the horn of the son of Denethor.' 'O Boromir! From the high walls westward I looked afar, But you came not from the empty lands where no men are.' From the mouths of the Sea the South Wind flies, from the sandhills and the stones; The wailing of the gulls it bears, and at the gate it moans. 'What news from the South, O sighing wind, do you bring to me at eve? Where now is Boromir the fair? He tarries and I grieve.' 'Ask not of me where he doth dwell --- so many bones there lie On the white shores and the dark shores under the stormy sky; So many have passed down Anduin to find the flowing Sea. Ask of the North Wind news of them the North Wind sends to me!' 'O Boromir! Beyond the gate the seaward road runs south, But you came not with the wailing gulls from the grey sea's mouth.' From the Gate of Kings the North Wind rides, and past the roaring falls; And clear and cold about the tower its loud horn calls. 'What news from the North, O mighty wind, do you bring to me today? What news of Boromir the Bold? For he is long away.' 'Beneath Amon Hen I heard his cry. There many foes he fought. His cloven shield, his broken sword, they to the water brought. His head so proud, his face so fair, his limbs they laid to rest; And Rauros, golden Rauros-falls, bore him upon its breast.' 'O Boromir! The Tower of Gaurd shall ever northward gaze To Rauros, golden Rauros-falls, until the end of days.
