Pretty sure–like 90-ish percent–that some of my students either purposefully or accidentally misgendered me today.
I have complicated feeling about being ‘Ms’, admittedly, but I definitely don’t feel like ‘Mr’ much either.

Words I would love to never hear again:
“Mannish” and “womanish”
Mom: ::looks at short sleeved button shirt covered in Captain America shields that I found:: …that’s not very womanish.
Me: ::does not respond. Mentally looks into the camera like on the Office::
Edit: she liked it a lot better once I had it on, but alas it was a little too snug.
Tonight on Pinterest, I discovered the following Jane Austen quote from Persuasion:
“It sometimes happens that a woman is handsomer at twenty-nine than she was ten years before.”
While I will be using “handsomer” in a slightly different sense than the original quote, I can definitely that I am a handsomer woman at twenty-nine than I was at nineteen.
Things that have happened today:
1. Trying on skirts has confirmed to me that I: A) am not a fan of skirts, but B) I would like to own a kilt or two someday.
2. Earned my MA in education; skipped the walking this time, but did get the hood. Because fancy.
So I have decided to cave a little and Play the Game and buy a skirt suit for interviews.
I am going to pretend it is a kilt and that any lipstick I may end up wearing is the blood of my enemies
me: ::trying to go to sleep::
my brain: Hey, let’s re examine your complicated relationship with gender norms as a child and how that kind of screwed up how you relate to women and especially more traditionally feminine women for, oh, about the millionth time 😀
me: …can we perhaps NOT do that.
my brain: You gotta.
me: -_-
