Good session with psychologist today. Managed to discuss pretty much all I wanted to make sure I did, and I feel quite a bit more at peace.

Up coming Something thing: Talking to local community college about what my process would be to enroll in a career tech program given that I…kind of have three degrees already.

So it is now 11:20am.

Apparently my psychologist’s office called at 8 something am (while I was apparently *deeply* asleep) to say they had TAKEN ME OFF of my appointment today, but wanted to double check if I still wanted it first. WTF. I had asked for this SPECIFICALLY because I DIDN’T want to wait till Halloween to see her again.

Called back to confirm and got answering service message so I pushed the number for assistance and got told the office was probably getting ready for lunch and to try back at 1pm.

I wanted to throw my phone across the room.

I know someone got confused somewhere, but I’d have been gutted to show up and find out I’d been canceled.

Everyone needs to see this. We can’t just let them discriminate against us, we have rights and we should fight for them. Our government is actively trying to push down minorities and no one is talking about it. This affects me and many of my friends. This could affect you or a friend you have. Even if this doesnt affect you, SPREAD THIS INFORMATION AND BE AN ALLY. We’re not gonna live in a broken country where freedom and equality is preached but only certain groups have those rights to equality and liberty. We shouldn’t have to live in fear of what human right our government is gonna strip away from us next. Please spread this.

It’s what happened to Jews in Germany in 1938 when their passports were declared invalid. That is what is beginning to happen here, now, to Hispanic citizens along the U.S.-Mexico border.

Oh, is it bad to compare the GOP to Nazis? Well, if members of the GOP do not like being compared to Nazis, they should consider not behaving exactly like Nazis.

Hispanic U.S. citizens, some of whom were in the U.S. military, are not being allowed to renew their passports. This is reportedly happening to “hundreds, even thousands” of Latinos, according to a report in the Washington Post. They’re getting letters from the State Department saying it does not believe they are citizens. The government claims their citizenships are fraudulent. “I’ve had probably 20 people who have been sent to the detention center—U.S. citizens,” Jaime Diez, an attorney in Brownsville, told The Washington Post.

The Washington Post also reports on ICE officials coming to citizens’ homes and taking their passports away. This is an escalation from a few months ago, when Americans were detained by ICE officials just for speaking Spanish to one another.

The administration is currently launching an effort to take citizenship from people who they suspect of fraud in obtaining it. Fraud in these cases is exceedingly rare. The last time the government tried to strip people of their citizenship was, according to Columbia Professor Mae Ngai, during The Red Scare of the 1950s. As Ngai remarks, McCarthyism is not typically remembered as a good period in American history.

There is good reason to believe that this could portend still worse things to come for the U.S. Hispanic population, unless people begin to speak out loudly, and fast.

First, they came for the Hispanics and I did nothing.

Then they came for (fill in the blanks) and I did nothing.

Then, when they came for me, there was no one to do nothing.

GUYS.

IT WILL HAUNT NOT ONLY YOU BUT YOUR CHILDRENS CHILDREN.

Made notes on my phone of things I want to bring up next time I see psychologist.

Also gonna admit that I was That Kid who was precocious and )1 listened to Dracula book-on-tape in 2nd grade and made herself afraid of the dark and 2) snuck true crime shows on Sunday afternoons when parents took a nap and this was definitely not helpful in the way I felt about becoming “visibly female” when I started getting boobs.

We should be more pro-active or we’ll see more of such sad fates of honest people.

And the utterly ironic thing is I’ve seen repeated tumblr posts of that iconic photo absolutely slagging the shit out of Peter Norman as “lol white guy so uncomfortable”   “Why the fuck isn’t he supporting them”, etc etc.

As an Australian this post surprised me. I knew none of the above.
