Octavia Spencer bought an entire screening of Hidden Figures for families who otherwise can’t afford to attend.

Text of the Instagram post:
therealoctaviaspencer Tomorrow I’ve bought the 8pm showing of #hiddenfigures the rave Baldwin hills. If you know a family in need that would like to see our movie but can’t afford it have them come. It’s first come first served. My mom would not have been able to afford to take me and my siblings. So, I’m honoring her and all single parents this #mlkweekend Pass the word.

Nickelodeon have announced a plan to build an underwater theme park in Coron, Palawan, Philippines. They claim the 400 hectares would “advocate ocean protection,” however by building artificial structures they will actually damage and disrupt Palawan’s marine ecosystems – one of the Philippines most beautiful natural areas.

For a channel that targets children, this is unacceptable and sends a terrible message – to destroy the natural world and replace it with plastic and fantasy.

WE need to preserve what we have left and celebrate the beauty in nature.

Preexisting conditions laws left me stuck at terrible jobs. When I absolutely had to pay for COBRA once to keep from getting a permanent exclusion, it was $1600 a month. Please.

Senate Republicans have approved an Obamacare “repeal resolution”

  • Republicans in the Senate have voted on a budget process that they’re terming the Affordable Care Act “repeal resolution,” according to CNN.
  • The Senate reached a 51-48 decision, voting along party lines, at around 1:30 a.m. Thursday morning.
  • “This resolution will set the stage for true legislative relief from Obamacare that Americans have long demanded while ensuring a stable transition,” Senate Budget Chairman Mike Enzi (R-Wyo.) said. “
  • The vote is a definitive sign that Republicans intend to make good on their promise to repeal the ACA.
  • Though it still remains unclear whether they have any ideas for what will replace it. Read more

I dyed the top of my hair a mix of “burgundy” and some…dark shade of red. I like how it turned out.

And yes, this is all you get to see of me, because the idea of some of my former students possibly finding my Tumblr accidentally is literally the stuff of nightmares (I really *did* dream about one of my former students tracking me down and came very close to having a panic attack in-dream while basically going “fuckSHITgottahideSHIT” and like…attempting to hide via climbing a tree when I couldn’t climb most trees to save my life IRL).

I have started the process of making myself a cover song (mostly acapela, sometimes instrumentals, maybe some combined–I have not really mastered playing anything and singing at the same time just yet) centric YouTube channel. With a …really eclectic range (traditional folk to musical theatre to classic rock to newer stuff on the radio). Because music generally makes me feel better. And if I have somewhere to post it, that adds Some Level of Accountability to things.
