#god shaw must really let her guard down if root was able to take her drink right out of her hand
No, seriously Shaw looks so startled that Root has her drink. It took her a while to process that Root stole her drink. Her drink. From her hand.
From the second gif Shaw was all: Hey, that looks like my—- to the third gif where Shaw went: IT IS MINE. *grab*
And the look of: Why would you even—
(So, question, who bought that? ‘Cause when Harold appeared he only had the sandwich with him, no drinks. So, can we guess it was Root? Root bought her a drink, then decides to since she bought it anyway… she can share the drink with Shaw without her permission and Shaw’s all. NO. ITS MINE, YOU GAVE IT TO ME. ITS MINE.)
And everyone was freaking out, thinking Shaw was going to be pissed, violent towards Root, and that they’d end up worse than back at square one.
No, instead Root is allowed aaaaaaall over her personal space, stealing Shaw’s drink, and Shaw just ends up startled because how the fuck did you do that?!
This show’s constant delight in somehow knowing exactly what people are going to think is going to happen and instead turning it on it’s head is one of my greatest sources of delight.

“The Shaw Charging Dock. Excellent with kids, pets and overworked globe-trotting security experts. Yours only for the price of a large pastrami sandwich with extra spicy mustard and pepperoncinis. And a bag of chips. Buy yours this holiday season!”
I haven’t done anything in a cutesy style for a while so why the heck not.
The original photoshop file also crashed on me so I ended up working from a screenshot. Gwarghh.
Also. Happy Holidays everybody :D.
“I’m a sociopath, I don’t have feelings.”
“And I’m a reformed killer for hire. We’re perfect for each other.”Okay I’m gonna be that douchebag that reblogs their own tags here, but in my defense I wasn’t thinking properly at the time (GEE I WONDER WHY) and I really should have put these comments in this text box to begin with anyway because I REALLY REALLY NEED TO TALK WITH SOMEONE ABOUT THIS:
I have so many feelings. this was kind of more painful than the actual end of the episode. because I know shaw’s not actually going to die. but this right here. in its own little universe this *was* the end of their story. and root was legitimately happy that she got as much as she did from shaw. because she understands her and knows that shaw doesn’t do emotions well. and that the state of their relationship was always up to shaw. and she dies happy. or at least secure in the knowledge that shaw was willing to give her everything that she could give. and shaw was left behind with the could-have-beens. and where does she go from there?. that’s a depressing universe and it was beautiful and poignant and perfectly done. and I’m so glad it wasn’t reality.
CAN WE JUST
You know what I find so incredibly wonderful/painful/gratifying? In every iteration Root needs to talk to Shaw one last time, and in every iteration, Shaw acknowledges (on some level) their relationship. This isn’t just “its canon” this is “its canon in all the permutations that exist.” This is so canon that the Machine could not calculate the survival of its agents without including this particular aspect of their relationship. Which honestly to me is even more telling than the physical kiss
although thank fuck for that kiss because now the general audience can’t pretend they’re “just good friends.“
#this moment is so important #because this is how shaw shows she cares #it isn’t that she doesn’t feel #but she just doesn’t have language to express #what she is feeling #those whispered muted feelings #but still feelings #if shaw ever admits to feeling anything for root #it won’t be some sappy love declaration #it will be an awkward hug #or an awkward gesture #or an awkward but hot kiss #it will be awkward (via jetgirl78)
Shaw doesn’t tell you she loves you. She checks to make sure you’re in one piece. She checks the bandages on your bullet wounds are up to her incredibly high standards. She jumps on a bike and makes her way to New Jersey to make sure you survive your stupid suicide mission. She makes sure all your limbs are intact and you don’t have too big of a knock on your head.
And then, she will be awkward and dismissive, all eye rolling and ‘I don’t care, you just need to not die. For the mission.’ Because like the tags say above: it’s not that she doesn’t feel, she just doesn’t have the language to express it. So, she says and shows it in keeping you safe, in poking and prodding to keep you from getting too serious in your own dark (Root and Reese). In handing you a gun (maybe two, or maybe an entire fucking bag) or calling you a stone cold fool. She will call you out on your stupidity and self-sacrificing bullshit because she wants you around. She might tell you to put your damn seatbelt on, but probably not, because if you’re going to be that stupid then she’s just going to slam on the brakes a few times. (She might love you, but you’re still an idiot and she’s still a brat.)
But I think what really kills me is watching Root speak to her in her own language. Because just try and tell me that tossing Shaw breakfast and feeding her isn’t basically the same god damned thing. Feeding people is a classic sign of showing them you care for them.
It’s not in the words, it’s in the actions.
The barber in Diamond City has hair styles that weren’t available in the pre-war char creation. I am very pleased.
So here is more of Quinn, with new hair, some more outfit modelling, and Dogmeat being awesome.
Also, I had my first example of the classic Bethesda “enemy dies and flies into space for a moment” glitch. Piper seemed impressed.
oh my god I need that hair
I love it so much.
And more Quinn, in what is now her signature outfit. For now. She took it off a guy, so spoiler tag in place for the dialogue in the first pic.

↳ Sameen MyWifeIsAdorableButTellHerIsaidthatandIWillBreakYourNeck Shaw.#also sameen ‘I’m being emotionally affected by root right now and have no idea how to handle it so I’m going to fiddle with my beanie’ shaw #she does the same thing when she turns away from her on the sidewalk at the end of deus ex machina #what a nerd #what fucking cutie babies #aaaaaaaaaaaaaaa #root x shaw (via winged-mammal)
#she always used shaw when she wanted emotional distance#or when she wanted to be on neutral/equal ground with shaw#root used sam when she wanted to purposely annoy shaw#and sameen was her term of endearment#also used when she wanted to be affectionately annoying#or overtly seductive and flirty#root saying sameen always meant she was actually being vulnerable
#sameen was root’s ‘tell’#whenever she used it shaw knew root was laying her cards on the table regardless of what root was saying to hide it#and if you watch shaw#she responds accordingly#root’s tone when she says sameen lets shaw know which way the conversation will go#and she either calls root out for it#or carefully listens with much less snark and projected hostility#shaw often seems to soften her demeanor in response to the times root is genuinely serious or sincere#all based just on the way and manner in which root say’s her name#i think shaw learned after the hotel meeting and subsequent research not to trust root’s body language or words#so she focused#maybe subconsciously on tone#it’s the one thing root can’t mask or hide#around shaw in particular#but really no one else pays enough attention or knows root well enough#to pay attention to the way she speaks#shaw would have zeroed in on it pretty quick#especially during the kidnapping#but I think shaw is also the only person later on who actually cares enough about what root has to say that she makes sure to listen#a refined art form of shaws#as she has spent her whole life learning to listen#very carefully#her own small voices (via archaeomedic)
