To everyone who keeps telling the confession maker that she or he should be glad they had a nightmare involving Alistair sexually assaulting them: You are a disgusting human being. As someone who has had a nightmare about being sexually assaulted by someone I knew in real life and used to see on a fair regular basis, IT IS NOT COOL AND IT IS NOT FUNNY. It is extremely disturbing.

Just because it was a fairly popular character that lots of people make regular comments about wishing they could have sex with, it does not make it okay for you to be all “lol, wet dream” or “lol jealous” or whatever the hell insensitive asshole comment you feel like making. You’re gross, and you’re contributing to the continuation of the disgusting existence of rape culture.

help me out, tumblr:

i have a paper due … this thursday … in which i need to analyze an advertisement that co-opts feminist ideals (independence, inherent self-worth, etc.) to sell women shit. we discussed campaigns like “because you’re worth it” or “pretty is, but beauty does” in class, but i need to find some random ad to analyze and idk. ):

DOES ANYONE KNOW OF ANYTHING

CAN ANYONE HELP ME FIGURE OUT HOW TO EVEN GOOGLE THIS

HEEEEEEELP (?)

Here’s the ad I mentioned in the ask. I also wrote a response to it here, because while it’s attempting to be woman-positive, it’s still selling “if you are a woman, you must be x.”

DA-ily Challenge Day 11: Of Love Songs, Storytellers and Varric’s Theme

flutiebear:

Favorite Song from the Soundtracks: “I’m Not Calling You A Liar (Varric’s Theme)”

Not to detract from Inon Zur’s magnificent score, but my favorite song from any of the Dragon Age games remains DA2’s end credits song, “I’m Not Calling You A Liar (Varric’s Theme)”. (Youtube version at the link)

No, it’s not on the soundtrack, and no, it wasn’t technically written for the game. But it’s gorgeous and haunting, and if I were trapped on a desert island with an mp3 player that could hold only one song, well, this would be the one.

But the first time I listened to the lyrics – really listened – I just couldn’t figure out why the developers had chosen this song and subtitled it “Varric’s Theme”.  I mean, just look at it:

There’s a ghost in my lungs and it sighs in my sleep
Wraps itself around my tongue as it softly speaks
Then it walks, then it walks with my legs
To fall, to fall, to fall at your feet

That sounds far more like Anders lamenting his situation with Justice, doesn’t it?

Or what about these lines:

I’m not calling you a liar, just don’t lie to me
I’m not calling you a thief, just don’t steal from me
I’m not calling you a ghost, just stop haunting me

Well, that sounds more like Hawke admonishing Varric or Isabela or his Warden/Gallows-domiciled sibling, no?

But then I got to thinking.

If we assume that “Varric’s Theme” is told from our “trusty” dwarf’s perspective—what if it isn’t about a person, or a set of persons, at all? What if Varric is speaking about the story itself?

Then maybe this song fits Varric better than I originally thought.

(The rest of this ramble is behind the break.)

This is magnificent.

While snagging Orlesian-looking replacements for the vault armor in MotA, I found that’s there’s  now a mod that lets f!Hawke wear a dress at the party except for cut scenes.

That’s cool and all, except for the part where the modder said, “You cannot go to an elegant party wearing trousers!”

Actually, yes, yes, you can go to an elegant party wearing trousers if you please. Not everybody at the fancy party might be okay with that, but to modify a quote from Isabela, “They don’t you. You know you.”

nocturnecity:

Neo-victorian / steampunk. Sometimes classy, mostly just brassy. When it’s done well, it’s wonderful… note that none of these dapper gentlemen has a fucking Nerf Maverick anywhere in sight.

Edit:

I described those fine gentlemen, which seem to be getting some unanticipated attention, as steampunk / neo-Victorian. However, it’s been brought to my attention that the outfits are rather more based on Regency-era fashions, from a half-century earlier — the era of Pride & Prejudice.

Easy mistake to make if you’re not a fashion student (and I’m not). I will stand by that it looks way cooler than what’s usually called steampunk. Most of you seem to agree! I think we’ve all learned a little something today. *single tear*

Edit #2: I didn’t know where these pics originally came from (they’ve been on my HD for years) but “moarpikachuplz” has the info:

There you have it! In conclusion,

Hello, ladies.
Mister DARCY!

Regency Era menswear, unf. I want those clothes. Get in my wardrobe, you ridiculously sexy coats and waistcoats and neckwear, you.

my feelings are complicated

because while i am never going to shame or criticize anyone for being feminine or happening to conform (or deliberately conforming) to current ideals of beauty, that does not mean that femininity and the ideal of beauty are neutral or apolitical. bioware, out of…

I agree with this post.

Those animations have always been a little odd for me, since most of the f!Hawke’s I’ve played would not, in my head, walk like that or have idle animations like that. Most of them wouldn’t even wear an actual dress (which made me relieved when f!Hawke got the same outfit as m!Hawke in MotA) except for a couple of my mages and the Hawke who plans to enter the Chantry in a chaste marriage with Sebastian.
