Our Diabetic Life: TSA Cares: Use it!

odiedragon:

PSA for anyone with special needs traveling by plane in the US: Be aware that you can get assistance from the TSA if you call ahead and schedule a Passenger Support Specialist (PSS) to assist you through the process.

If you…

Be informed, call ahead, make your travel go more smoothly!

Official TSA Cares website: http://www.tsa.gov/traveler-information/travelers-disabilities-and-medical-conditions

The information on general medication and diabetes supplies is MUCH more concise and understandable than it was when I made my first plane trip ever.

Since I’m doing that again soon, it was nice to have a concise review.

Even if just the idea of idea of screenings still makes me super anxious.

Please re-blog because as someone who works in the field— this is something you want to know beforehand

pdsa is who you want in the uk, blue cross, dog’s trust, and the rspca can help too

your local vets might offer reduced rates for some people too and a lot of them have websites nowadays so it’s worth a quick check

This is awesome.

Honestly if I didn’t have animal companions throughout my life, I probably wouldn’t be here. They don’t care how white, black, or whatever I am or am not.

Truly unconditional love.

Please signal boost!

so i’ve been looking into getting a tablet e-reader for a while, for reading and for a much less bulky way of showing my portfolio than lugging around my computer to cons and interviews, but i still don’t understand WHAT IS THE REAL DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE KINDLE AND THE NOOK

like i know kindle uses the amazon library and the nook uses barnes and noble but just comparing the specs online they both seem pretty similar aside from the price.

does anyone have any recommendations one way or another?

I havne’t tried the nook, but I really love my kindle. The interface is clean and easy, and I’ve got a crapton of books on there. And if you go with Amazon Prime, you can watch a bunch of videos for free.

downside is that when the WiFi is on, the batter drains like crazy

I got a Nook Tablet mainly because the way most Kindles (that were around at the time–I have no idea if newer models have done away with this, as the Kindle Fire wasn’t out yet when I got the Nook equivalent of it) do the page turning–screen going to an inverted version of itself with black page and white letters–was kind of strobe-y to me and made me feel kind of sick.

Probably not an issue with tablet versions of Kindle, but definitely an issue with just the e-reader versions

PSA to Night Vale fans: Block truecatholic

fantasticallyperfectass:

this user, truecatholic, is fond of harassing PoC fans of WtNV. If you are a person of color or simply don’t want to see this racist person’s stuff, block them. (they straight up say they are racist on their blog)

White Night Vale fans, this is a GREAT opportunity for you to stick up for people of color in the Night Vale community and show “you’re not all like that.”

This is not an issue with most of the people I follow, but I did see some nonsense about “THE NAME OF THAT JAEGAR IS NOT A SLUR, THE SLUR IS SPELLED WITH A Y AND THE JAEGAR IS NAMED AFTER AN ENGINE. IT’S CLEVER, NOT OFFENSIVE” go across my dash today.

Shut. Up.

Let me tell you a thing about the English language: spelling “rules” played fast and loose well into the 1800s, and still do.

The Jaegar’s name contains a variant spelling of the the slur.

And just where the hell do you think the engine got it’s name?

One of those de Havilland plane varieties with that engine has the same name as a moth, only the moth’s name is spelled like the most commonly used modern spelling of the slur.

Variant. Spellings. Do. Not. Make. It. Not. Offensive.

And unless you are a member of the people whom the slur is aimed at, sit down and shut up about what is and is not a slur or what is or is not offensive because you don’t get to decide that for other people.
