This is terrible

It already happened and he survived, as did the snake, because they pulled him out via cable attached to his suit that triggered the snake to regurgitate but let me repeat myself:

This.
Is.
Terrible.

And someone who calls himself a “naturalist” should be ashamed of himself for endangering an animal who is NOT built to swallow something like a human. Not only that but regurgitating a meal is very stressful on a snake! I’m a herpetologal field biologist who does field surveys for clients—and one of our number one rules is never disturb a feeding snake because of the high levels of stress, the loss of important digestive fluids (when you’re a reptile, that’s a big deal), and the loss of all that effort it takes to actually secure a meal. Usually the snake will not feed again immediately after having to regurgitate.

All in all it was very risky, very unfair to the creature and directly impacted its well-being and survival for a stupid publicity stunt.

I urge everyone to not watch this special should it air and please sign this petition to let Discovery know that we don’t want to watch animal abuse.

This is not only animal abuse but it is going to make the general public /more/ afraid of snakes, and make people believe that anacondas /do/ eat people. Which in fact, they’d much rather not. Did you know there’s only /two/ records of anacondas attacking a person? TWO. ONLY TWO.

Don’t let discovery feed people’s fears, it’ll lead to people killing harmless snake species and by watching you’ll only be letting them know it’s ‘okay to harm animals for entertainment.’

The tags from the fucking numb nuts on this post are burning me alive.

I want to rip their food out of their throat mid-swallow and see how they do.

WRITE TO DISCOVERY AND LET THEM KNOW THEIR PISS POOR BEHAVIOR WILL NOT BE TOLERATED.

HOLY FUCK YOU’D BE UP IN ARMS IF THIS WAS SOME FURRY CAT OR DOG.

I am so angry

JESUS!

I think the fact that she and Kelli Stapleton were both “autism mom” bloggers is not a coincidence. I think there’s something very very scary and dangerous about the way most of that community talks about their children. And it’s past the point where it’s just harmful, it’s actually resulted in two separate parents trying to kill their children, and one succeeding.

This wasn’t even a murder-suicide. It was just a murder. She decided her son was too difficult, so she murdered him. I hope she spends the rest of her life in prison.

hey if you’re allistic you absolutely need to reblog this. this needs to get out there. just saying

hey how about allistics not fucking ignore this like every other murder of autistic children, dont ignore how the media is painting the mother as stressed and on edge as an excuse, dont ignore how she’s not being fully blamed and how this was an “understandable” response because her child was too much of a “burden.” dont fucking ignore this. the media is victim blaming a dead six year old do not ignore this

One Day Without Diabetes

diabetesyoyo:

Every once in a while you deserve the right to take a day or two off from your work, whether it’s from a job or a school, to relax and forget about the daily grind and routine. But this is such luxury which people who suffer from chronic illnesses like Type 1 Diabetes cannot afford – neither the patients themselves nor the family looking after or supporting them. Managing the condition is a full time job 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Not a single day off.  Not one.

Sometimes you wish you could take just that one day off to feel ‘normal’. Eat what you like without worrying about carb counting, walk barefoot on the beach without worrying about getting cuts on your feet or just sleep as long as you want to without having to wake up and check your blood sugar levels or do your injections. Just for one day.

New developments to find a cure for diabetes look promising, such as the discovery of how to grow insulin-producing cells by Harvard University scientists. But the absolute, definite cure is still years away in the future. In the meantime, the focus on lessening the burden of diabetes management through artificial pancreas provides a glimmer of hope; being able to take that one day off from diabetes and achieve a degree of normalcy may not be wishful thinking anymore.

November is diabetes awareness month culminating in the World Diabetes Day on the 14th day of the month. This one day puts continued focus on driving awareness and advocacy for the condition and ultimately to finding the elusive cure. We can all play a part in this by supporting and helping the global diabetes community spread the word so that the day we are hoping for will come sooner rather than later – one day.

NDEP | Diabetes Information, Education, and Treatment

November is American Diabetes Month. Since I’ve got education on the brain, I decided to share this resource guide. It’s geared toward making sure students with diabetes can get the most out of school while also having their medical needs met by having parents, teachers, administrators, and school nurses work together. It’s also a good general resource, and something I may draw from when introducing my students to my diabetes.

It doesn’t sound condescending! It’s really, really nice to hear, actually. Because it is hard, and that doesn’t get acknowledged all that much.

Thank you.
