Or perhaps they want to be able to romance Kaidan in ME3 because they play mShep and weren’t able to romance him in ME1 and there’s a chance that he might be a same-sex LI in ME3?

That’s the reason I’ve most often seen, anyway. I also noticed a sharp increase in mShep/Kaidan fanart when SS romance in ME3 was announced.

Also, this is kind of a jerkassy thing to say.

It is a jerkassy thing to say. I really do hope that BioWare allows both Shepards to romance Kaiden in ME3. If someone wants to play a Shepard who has loved Kaiden all along, or realizes that he’s (or she – the first part of this sentence is just for m!Shep, since he couldn’t romance Kaiden in ME1, but the rest can also obviously apply to a female Shepard) attracted to him, they have every right to do so.

I also happen to hope that Ashley is romanceable for both Shepards, and that Jack is as well. But with better writing for a Jack romance this time, please. These two wishes are largely because I’ve been writing a female Shepard who, in the world of my writing, romanced or at least had a massive crush on Ash in ME1, then fell for Jack in ME2. I have in-game versions of this Shepard because I like playing the game out with characters I write, but as far as the in-game-version goes, she’ll have to make do with keeping her feelings hidden.
