BROODMOTHER.: This may be a little rude, but I really feel the need to say it.

I hate when I’m told that saying the “N” word is not appropriate for a white person to say. I am white and I don’t see a problem with it, unless it’s used in a verbally threatening way.

I am also gay. I do not find it a problem…

As a white person, I find the fact that there are white people who see nothing wrong about saying the n-word disturbing. I am also almost willing to bet this person does not live in the Southern US.

Words have power. Intent does not magically make the word inoffensive to anyone who might hear it used. If you are not a member of a certain group who has certain members who may embrace casual, non-derogatory usage of originally derogatory words such as the n-word as used by some, not all, African Americans, or various words for people who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans*, or queer, or any other words used historically to label, other, or harm any other minority, nothing on earth gives you the right to “appropriate” or “reclaim” those words, because they are not your words.
